Foxton Lock Festival cancelled
By: Janet Richardson
ORGANISERS of the Foxton Locks Festival have had to pull the plug on this weekend's event.
Committee member Steve Bowyer said: "The deluge that has been the British spring and summer has taken its toll of the festival site. The lorry delivering the marquee became stuck in the festival field; the festival entrance is waterlogged, not helped by a slow leak from the canal and the car parking field is severely waterlogged, has some deep tractor ruts and could not deal with scores, never mind 1000s, of cars.
"I am sure you will appreciate we have not taken this decision lightly and this will cost the Trust a significant sum (we were not insured for this eventuality). We are, however, primarily concerned about the safety and enjoyment of not only our exhibitors/entertainers but also our volunteers, visitors and their vehicles."
He added: "No doubt this decision will guarantee that the sun will now shine brightly for the rest of the week but even so the water will not dissipate quickly enough to allow us to safely proceed.
"We hope to be able to announce a music only festival "Foxton Rocks" later in the year and publicise a 2013 festival date in the near future."
The Olympic Torch is due to appear at Foxton Locks on Monday (July 2) as part of the Olympic Relay Route.
