Let’s get together to tackle river rubbish

I RECENTLY wrote to Jon Horsfall, North East Waterways’ manager, to see if we can network with all our MPs in the catchment area of the Yorkshire Ouse to support the Canal & River Trust and any other relevant agencies to look at some long term capital investment to tidy up the river.

Not forgetting the Nidd which is not navigable but sends its flow of rubbish downriver during flooding I am sure.

I would like to see our MPs and Canal & River Trust getting round the table and start linking up in a positive way giving our river a decent future benefiting everyone on both sides of its banks.

For too long many have passed the buck to whoever is responsible for the river. What we need is a future ‘River Quality Partnership’ to unite all concerned with a forward focus.
