THE Cotswold Canals Trust is reminding supporters that the consultation deadline for the WRSE (Water Resources South East) draft best value plan closes on Monday February 20.
Thanking everyone who has already submitted a response to the WRSE and Thames Water WRMP Consultations in support of the Cotswold Canals Severn Thames Transfer (CCSTT) Scheme, it urges anyone who has yet to take part: “Now is the time to act if you want to respond.
“The easiest way to take part is to send an email expressing your support for the Cotswold Canals Severn-Thames Transfer option and bringing it forward in the proposed programme.”
Email WRSE via: [email protected]
A separate consultation into the Thames Water draft Water Resource runs until Tuesday March 21 and supporters are also urged to respond and copy in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
Email Thames Water WRMP at [email protected] and copy in [email protected]
The Cotswold Canals Trust proposal, could see up to 300 million litres of water per day being transferred from the River Severn to the River Thames via the canal.
CCT states: “The scheme has huge advantages over more traditional solutions like reservoirs and pipelines. With a restored canal, there is no loss of countryside and less need to keep taking water from the ground in the South East. It is the most promising way of restoring the whole 36 miles of the Thames-Severn link.”
The trust believes the Severn Thames Transfer is also the best value option – one that considers a range of factors alongside economic cost and seeks to achieve an outcome that increases the overall benefit to customers, the wider environment and society.
