National Community Boats Association press officer Madhurika Walsh keeps us up to date with the latest training activities.
WITH the new community boating season fast approaching, members of our senior training team are once again out on the water running instructor training courses for a variety of our projects. This will enable them to continue their excellent work in both training members of the public and volunteers at their projects to skipper boats on type A and B waterways.
We have managed to assist all our projects during the pandemic by removing all the NCBA membership fees, which we will be doing once again for the 2023/24 season; this was agreed upon at our recent annual meeting in Nottingham. Therefore, if you are a community-based project and not currently a member, now would be an excellent time to join us. Doing so will give you access to our website containing a wealth of waterways knowledge and training materials.
By becoming a member, and with the appropriate training, your project could train numerous courses, from our boat handling course to our Certificate in Community Boat Management (CCBM), which is ideal for boats that carry 12 passengers.
You would also be able to offer junior and senior Community Crew courses, starting from the age of eight upwards.
The NCBA is run by a small group of volunteer trustees, and currently, we are looking for new members to join our board. We are interested in hearing from anyone not necessarily from a boating background, although that could be useful in some circumstances.
