THE Canal & River Trust has confirmed that visitor moorings in Gloucester Docks are once again available following progress made with dredging to remove the build-up of silt.
As part of a £1 million ongoing dredging programme, the silt was bought into the docks last year via the River Severn when water levels in the river were historically low due to the arid summer.
Molly Richards, area operations manager for the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal, said: “We are pleased to have reopened the visitor moorings for boats in the docks.
“With dredging ongoing until mid-June and a further programme starting in September, the trust’s team is on hand to advise visiting boaters on the best place to moor.”
The trust has removed more than 19,000 cubic metres of silt from the docks since November and dredging is being targeted to address key priority areas for customers to ensure a navigable channel across the dock, and for berths in Victoria Basin and the Barge Arm.
