THE next Annual BCN Clean-Up is taking place on March 15-16 and this year will be targeting the Tipton areas of the Old and New Main Lines. As every year, the event aims to recover more than 20 tonnes of waste from the water as well as clearing rubbish from towpaths.
Organised by Waterway Recovery Group, IWA branches in the West Midlands, Canal & River Trust as well as Birmingham Canal Navigations Society and Coombeswood Canal Trust, the annual effort will help keep the less well-used parts of the BCN and Black Country network from getting choked up with rubbish.

The BCN are used by many, not just for boating but for walking, cycling, fishing and canoeing. This rubbish looks unsightly, is a danger to wildlife, causes pollution and can damage boats and injure waterway users. Participants will spend two days grappling with debris including bikes, tyres, wheelbarrows, safes and of course, shopping trolleys. The event is a great opportunity for everyone including local residents to get involved, so why not go along and get dirty.
