On Saturday 10th December, Overwater Marina played host to the Audlem Santa Dash, a charity fun run/walk, organised in conjunction with Audlem based Pau Run and Ride.
The 5km event saw runners and walkers complete a course starting at Audlem canal wharf, making their way along the Shropshire Union towpath and around the Marina and back. Despite the cold weather, there was a great turnout of festively dressed competitors stopping at Overwater for a mince pie and a drink. Thanks, must also go to CRT for allowing use of the towpath and also the local volunteers who dressed up and gave encouragement to the participants, some of whom had recently undertaken the Couch to 5K course run by Matt Capper of Pau Run and Ride.
The event raised over £500 for St Luke’s Hospice and Overwater is planning to make it an annual event
The Audlem Lass Boat Service crew also arranged a festive Santa Cruise to give parents and children an affordable trip around the marina with Santa. Sadly, the icy conditions meant Father Christmas had to be relocated to one of Overwater’s Glamping Wagons where he really appreciated the warmth and, rumour has it, he’s booked a short break in one for a rest after the big day!
The Audlem Lass Boat Service is volunteer run and is based at Overwater. The boat, which provides trips from the Marina to the bottom of the Audlem Locks, operates from Easter to the end of October every weekend and bank holiday and raises thousands of pounds every year to support the Royal National Life Boat Institution (RNLI). The boat also provides a very novel way for Father Christmas to arrive in the village each year for the annual Big Switch-on of the Audlem Christmas lights.
