It is hoped that this short section of the canal will soon be linked again with the main canal system.

Michael Limbrey, chair of the Montgomery Waterway Restoration Trust, David Carter, chair of the SUCS and John Dodwell, chair of the Montgomery Canal Partnership, outlined the history of the restoration, the present works being undertaken and future plans.

The visitors also saw the newly built Schoolhouse Bridge and the restored tramway wharf at Crickheath, before seeing SUCS volunteers covering the Terraseal lining with blocks, between Crickheath Bridge and the farm crossing. Another group were covering the sides with rip/rap (broken stone), where emergent vegetation will be able to thrive once the canal is rewatered.
