RCR ‘how to…’ videos

River Canal Rescue has released its second ‘how to…’ video on YouTube, giving engine alignment training.

Fronted by RCR standards and ethics executive, Kerry Horton, he explains how to see if an engine is out of alignment, where adjustments can be made, the difference between radial and angular alignment and how to do both.

Kerry also discusses engine balance points, what to do if there’s uneven pressure on the engine mounts, how to level it up and how to make fine adjustments.

At the end of the session, Kerry shares his top tips:

  • Always align the engine to the stern gear
  • If an engine nut works itself loose, always tighten the bottom nut, not the top
  • If you have new engine nuts fitted always check the re-alignment after 20 running hours, because mounts will ‘bed in’.

RCR’s first video covers stern glands, discussing adjustment and packing replacement (the latter when no alignment is needed).  Both, together with rescue videos, can be viewed at www.youtube.com/@rivercanalrescue6450
