A further update will be provided by tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 6 September. We apologise for the disruption and inconvenience that our boating customers have experienced as a result of the required repair at lock 87 on the Rochdale canal. Our team will now be on site on Monday 4th September to undertake a repair. A further update will be provided on Tuesday 5th September. If the repair is un-successful, we may need to revert to lifting the gate (and the use of a crane) to re-align it at a later date. Please be advised we have now been granted an early morning road closure on Wednesday 20 September to utilise use of a crane and allow our teams to safely access the lock to conduct the repair to the broken heel post at Lock 87, Princess St on the Rochdale Canal. To ensure the safety of our customers, padlocks remain in place on Lock 91, Deansgate and Lock 84, Dale St to prevent access on to the Rochdale 9. For any Trust customers immediately affected by this closure and stuck on the Bridgewater Canal, we ask you to let us know and contact our North West Customer Support team on 0303 040 4040 so we are able to make further arrangements. Please be advised following a successful site visit last week between our North West Reactive Team and specialist contractors at Lock 87, Princess St on the Rochdale Canal we have now established a method of repair for the broken heel post. To maintain a safe working environment the work requires a necessary bus lane closure, which will allow our teams to safely access the lock to conduct the repair. We’re in the process of liaising with relevant third-party departments to achieve the required traffic management; our proposal for the road closure is a Sunday evening to minimise impact, once the traffic management systems are in place, we estimate the repair work to take around seven days. To ensure the safety of our customers, padlocks remain in place on Lock 91, Deansgate and Lock 84, Dale St to prevent access on to the Rochdale 9.
