Upstream of Willington Lock ADVICE (Wednesday 5 July 2023 until rescinded) Please be aware there is a partially submerged tree limb in the river upstream of Willington Lock W3W: ///riding.tubes.firming Starts At: Lock 51, Wootton Rivers Please be advised as a reminder, to help us manage water resources, the current opening hours for Crofton Flight (Locks 51 Wootton Rivers, Lock-61 Crossing Lock) are 09:30 – 15:30 daily. Please help save water to keep the canals open for boating. Save water | Close the gates | Lower the paddles. Note that exceptions may apply to these rules at Crofton. Please look out for local signage. Further to the notice below, we are pleased to confirm that the works at Heathy Lock have now been completed. Our teams are currently undertaking final checks on the lock and evaluating water resources. We are expecting to open from 1500 hours today. We are aware that there are several boats waiting to cross the summit pound, so we are extending the opening period from 1530 hours to 1800 hours. The closure at 1800 hours at Wootton Rivers Lock 51 and the locks up to Crossing Lock 61 will allow the summit pound water levels to recover overnight from the expected heavy traffic. The closure is necessary and unfortunately all waiting traffic may not make passage this evening. Please be mindful when using the locks and follow all the instructions on the lock beams and our teams on site. Please travel in pairs where necessary. Opening times for the section between Wootton Rivers lock 51 to Crossing lock 61 is 0930 to 1530 hours daily. Further to the notice below, works to the offside gate are nearing completion. However, similar deterioration was noted on the towpath side gate. Whilst we have the opportunity of a dewatered lock we have made the decision to refurbish the damaged gate. The repairs have been carried out on site saving additional time. Unfortunately, the additional repairs have extended the stoppage by a further two days. If the works go according to plan we will re open navigation on the afternoon of 7th July. This message will be updated as soon as we have any further information.
