Update on 03/07/2023:

Please be advised, navigation has resumed through Poolstock Locks on the Leigh Branch and Lock 87 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. Whilst navigation is now possible, we politely request all customers to proceed through the area with care and help us conserve water by: Sharing locks where possible and making the best use of the water available. Ensuring paddles are fully closed once they have passed through a lock. Aiming for minimal contact when navigating through locks by ensuring gates are fully open as they pass through. Pushing gates open using a boat can damage the gate lining, increasing its leakage. Our local team will continue to monitor the water levels in the local area, however if you do experience low water, please call us on 0303 0404040.

Update on 30/06/2023:

Please be advised that navigation is now closed from Poolstock Lock 1 on the Leigh Branch to Lock 87 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal due to low water in the pound.

All other details remain the same.

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Friday 30 June 2023 until further notice)

Please be advised navigation is closed, following vandalism to Poolstock Lock where the paddles have been left open, the pound between Lock 1, Top Lock on the Leigh Branch and Lock 86 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is severely low on water.

The local team are aware and onsite feeding water down to the affected area. We anticipate this will take most of today to regain a navigable level

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (Friday 30 June 2023 until further notice)

Navigation is closed at Shirley Drawbridge after a vehicle has driven into and damaged the barrier. Our team is on the way to assess the damage.

Navigation will be closed this afternoon but our team will visit the site at 10am and 2pm tomorrow (01/07/23) to manually let any waiting boats through.

Update on 07/07/2023:

Repairs have now been completed and portadams are due to be removed on Saturday 8th July.

Subject to water returning to navigable levels we will re-open the navigation on Sunday 9^th July.

Update on 05/07/2023:

Our team was alerted to reducing water levels in the Leeds & Liverpool Skipton pound (evening of 29 July). We carried out investigations into the cause the following day and found a problem with a culvert downstream of Holme Lock at Gargrave.  

A fish rescue will be taking place on 4 July, with CCTV of the adjacent culvert taking place the following day, to confirm any damage to the main culvert structure and fully inform a repair methodology.

We expect to start repairs from Thursday 6 July and will provide a further update on Friday 7 July.

In the meantime, water levels downstream are improving.  Therefore, our team of lock keepers will be enabling passage through Bingley 3 & 5 Rise Locks, Forge Locks and Newlay Locks on a discretionary basis depending on how much water is available (in addition to the previously advertised times).  

Update on 03/07/2023:

Due to recovering levels the lock flights will reopen to allow water to flow. Passage for boaters will be at the discretion of the lock keepers on site. The keepers will be on site between the regular opening hours. 

Holme Bridge Lock will remain closed to preserve water levels.

Update on 03/07/2023:

Cofferdams and pumps were installed over the weekend and the affected area is being drained of remaining water. A feed has been established downstream and levels are starting to recover gradually. Our engineers will be on site later today to diagnose the failure and design a repair. Additionally, a fish rescue is taking place today to protect the canals ecosystem.  

The navigation remains closed until levels recover significantly. A further update will be provide on Wednesday.

Temporary dams will be installed later today to deal with the low water levels. 

The locks will remain closed, a further update will be provided tomorrow. 

NAVIGATION CLOSURE (8am Friday 30 June 2023 until further notice)

Passage through locks is suspended due to an ongoing incident on the pound between Skipton and Gargrave.

Please be advised due to unforeseen circumstances there has been a delay in our contractors attending site to repair the repair the shower facilities at Albert Dock Shower Room.

Please be advised our contractors attended site today to repair the shower facilities at Albert Dock Shower Room, however whilst on site they identified another fault.

Our contractors require a return visit and we anticipate their attendance next week.

Downstream of Castle Mills Lock

We have received a report of a tree which has partially fallen into the river downstream of Castle Mills Lock which we will look into as soon as it is practical to do so but in the meantime if navigating in this area please proceed with caution.

The bridge has reopened to navigation traffic.

The fault has been diagnosed as a failed proximity switch. A new one has been sourced and engineers will be on site today to replace the switch and test the bridge.

Please be advised that due to an oil spill the navigation is currently closed between Bridges 7 and 9 on the Lee Navigation.

Yarwell Lock only

Update on 7/07/2023:

Navigation Advisory Notice for Yarwell Lock on the River Nene issued on 29 June 2023 has been rescinded.  Please leave all locks on the River Nene in the correct position with guillotine gates up and V doors closed.

ADVICE (Thursday 29 June 2023 until further notice)

Following an inspection at Yarwell Lock of the leaking mitre doors, we are now in the process of sourcing contractors to facilitate the repairs.
In the meantime, can we please ask that when navigating through YARWELL LOCK ONLY that you leave the guillotine gate down and the V doors open. This is only applicable to this lock on the river due to the current situation

This replaces the Emergency Closure Notice for Yarwell Lock issued 28/06/2023 which is now rescinded.

RESTRICTION (Thursday 29 June 2023 until further notice)

There is a fallen tree on the towpath between A6 road bridge 23B and footbridge 23A on the River Soar.

Towpath users should proceed with caution.

We will require our specialist contractors to remove the tree and they will be out on site next week.   We will update the website on Tuesday 4th July

Hunts Small Lock, Northwich

Update on 03/08/2023:

We are pleased to advise the footbridge has now been repaired at Hunts Small Lock on the Weaver Navigation and navigation has resumed. 

Update on 19/07/2023:

Please be advised our local team & contractors have now scheduled dates to conduct the necessary repair to the footbridge at Hunts Small Lock on the Weaver Navigation.

We anticipate the repair works to start week commencing Monday July 31.

Until these works are complete access via the footbridge over the top gates at Hunts Small Lock on the Weaver Navigation remains closed.

Our local team have created temporary access points until a permanent method of repair is completed.

A further update will be provided by Friday 4 August.

Please be advised the public access over the top gates at Hunts Small Lock on the River Weaver is closed due to issue with the walkway.

Our teams are working towards a repair, access to the lock and operation is unaffected but as a result of the damage, wheelchair access across the lock is temporarily suspended at this time.

Update on 30/06/2023:

Our contractors have attended site today and completed the job.

Due to a blockage, Beeston Elsan has had to be temporarily deadlocked.  

Our contractors attended site today but were unable to complete the job and will re-attend tomorrow to finish clearing the blockage.  

We will update the website by the end of the day 29.6.2023.
