Lower dissolved oxygen levels in the water can cause distress to fish, meaning they might be seen gasping at the surface, or even cause fish kills to occur.

Our Contractor MEM Fisheries has deployed aerators to introduce oxygen into the water and improve fish welfare.

Any signs of distressed fish, particularly outside this length should be reported to [email protected] .

ADVICE (Thursday 15 June 2023 until further notice)

We are aware that there is a large amount of floating weed on the River Nene

We are in discussions with other Environment Agency departments as to
what can be done and when we can begin weed cutting. Additionally, there
are environmental factors such as the weather and the river’s oxygen level
that we need to take into consideration before work commences.
In the meantime, please navigate with caution whilst in this area.
