Updates to follow when available Lock 7, Lemonroyd Lock ADVICE (until further notice) Only one upstream sluice (lock tower side) and one downstream sluice (opposite side to tower) are operational. The lock is operational but lock operation will take longer than normal due to reduced sluice capacity to empty/fill lock. Elsan facility, Saul Sanitary Station. Further to the notice below, we are pleased to advise that the elsan at Saul Junction has now been repaired and is fully operational. ADVICE (until further notice) Please be advised that the elsan facility at Saul Junction is currently out of order and unable to be used. Contractors are aware and the facility will be repaired and reopened as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. In the meantime, facilities are available at Llanthony Bridge. Between Bridge 107 (Parsons) and Bridge 106 (Lane East Street) There is still a fallen tree on the Grand Union Canal between Bridge 107 and Bridge 106. Boaters can get past, but are asked to proceed with care. This tree will be cleared in due course, by our specialist contractors. A large tree has come down on the Grand Union Canal between Bridge 107 and Bridge 106. Boaters can get past, but are asked to proceed with care. Lock 11, Beeston Iron Lock ADVICE (until further notice) Please be advised there is an underwater obstruction on the offside washwall of Lock 11, Beeston Iron Lock, Shropshire Union Canal. Whilst navigation is still possible, we would advise to navigate with care. Our teams are aware and will investigate the issue as soon as able. An update will be provided by Wednesday 21 June. Lock 45 – Birstall Lock The repairs have been completed and boaters can now proceed through Birstall Lock as normal. The workboat is now on site ready for our maintenance team to carry out the required repairs. The lock will need to be drained tomorrow, as we try and resolve the issue with the lock gate. Due to a collision with Birstall Lock, the lock is currently out of action. Our engineers will be attending site to assess the extent of the damage and what repair works are required. Moorings Suspended ADVICE (until further notice) Please be advised all moorings will be suspended with immediate effect, between Bridge 56 and Bridge 57 on the Bugsworth Arm of the Peak Forest Canal. This is to enable emergency grouting repairs which are required and access to carry out these works. A further update will be provided once the works have been completed. Between bridges 53 and 54, South West of Foxton The tree has been cleared and boaters can now proceed as normal. There remains to be a tree in the canal between bridges 53 and 54, southwest of Foxton on the Leicester Arm of the Grand Union Canal. There is room for boats to pass and our contractors will finish clearing the tree tomorrow. Caution is advised to boaters navigating this section while the tree is removed. We will update the website tomorrow afternoon, once the job is completed. A tree has fallen into the canal between bridges 53 and 54, southwest of Foxton on the Leicester Arm of the Grand Union Canal. There is room for boats to pass and our contractors will be attending tomorrow to clear the tree from the navigation. Caution is advised to boaters navigating this section while the tree is removed. Bridge 20, Coxhead Swing Bridge We are pleased to advise our contractors have managed to make temporary repairs to Coxhead Swing Bridge and it is now open again. Johnsons Hillock Services We are pleased to advise the pump out at Johnsons Hillock Customer Service Facilities has now been repaired and is back in operation. Please be advised the pump out remains out of operation at Johnsons Hillock Customer Service Facilities due to a fault with the pumps. Guillotine Lock Parts have been ordered to repair the gearbox and it is now expected to be fixed and operational next week. This notice will be updated as we receive additional information. The gearbox was removed on Saturday to identify and source the parts needed to rebuild the gearbox. Once the parts are available, the gearbox will need to rebuilt and returned ready for the installation. Should there not be any delays to the repairs, the gearbox should be returned and installed towards the end of this week. The notice will be updated with any further information that we receive Scaffolding will be erected at the guillotine Lock on Thursday morning. Engineers will be carrying out investigative work to find out what the fault is and what is needed to be done to repair the guillotine lock. We will update the notice when we have any further information. NAVIGATION CLOSURE (until further notice) The guillotine lock – lock 19 – has failed and cannot be used until it has been fixed. We have appointed a team to repair the lock and will provide an update when the work is complete. Lock 1, Top Lock, Leigh Branch to Lock 86, Henhurst Lock Intersection of: Lock 1, Top Lock, Leigh Branch to Lock 1, Top Lock, Leigh Branch on Leigh Branch (L&L Canal) Please be advised, navigation has resumed through Poolstock Locks on the Leigh Branch and Lock 86 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. Whilst navigation is now possible, we politely request all customers to proceed through the area with care and help us conserve water by: Our local team will continue to monitor the water levels in the local area, however if you do experience low water, please call us on 0303 0404040. Please be advised navigation is closed, following vandalism to Poolstock Lock where the paddles have been left open, the pound between Lock 1, Top Lock on the Leigh Branch and Lock 86 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is severely low on water. The local team are aware and onsite feeding water down to the affected area. We anticipate this will take most of today to regain a navigable level. Between Bridge 17 and 18 near to kings Lears lake. The tree has been cleared and boaters can now proceed as normal. The tree which has fallen halfway between bridge 17 and 18 and opposite culvert 2 on the River Soar is still pending removal. We are awaiting our contractors to schedule this within the next few days. The tree partially blocks the navigation but is passable with care, except for widebeam boats. We advise caution to boaters in this section until removal. An update to this message will be posted on June 19th, 2023. Our contractors have attended Lock 3, Northgate Locks, Chester today to attempt a temporary repair, unfortunately this has been unsuccessful, and navigation remains closed. We are now looking in to an alternative method of repair and an update will be provided by Tuesday 20 June. Unfortunately, we have not been able to carry out a repair to Lock 3, Northgate Locks on the Shropshire Union Canal today. Following further inspections, specialist contractors are required. We are speaking with our contractors to organise attendance. A further update will be provided tomorrow, Friday 16 June. Please be advised, navigation is currently closed at Northgate Locks, Chester on the Shropshire Union Canal due to an issue with towpath side paddle at Lock 3.
