UPDATE:
Contractors have successfully removed the damaged balustrade. Whilst further repair works are conducted the bridge will be left in the open position to allow navigation to resume.
The Canal & River Trust is now working with its contractors carry out the repairs to reinstall the damaged parts over the next few weeks.
REPAIR work is needed to Crabtree Lane swing bridge No 32 on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal to the west of Burscough in Lancashire.
The bridge balustrade on one side fell off during the evening of July 3. It had suffered from a vehicle strike a couple of weeks ago, leaving the balustrade at an angle.
It has been closed to both road and canal traffic while engineers from the Canal & River Trust assess the damage and work out a repair method. An update is due to be issued today (July 5).
